Bone Grafting

Description

At Brooklyn Heights Dental, we provide both the surgical placement of dental implants and the restoration of dental implants. In some cases, we need to perform bone grafting to restore the bone to its adequate width before we can place dental implants.

DR. STANISLAUS: When we lose a tooth the bone that supported that tooth shrinks, because once the root of the tooth is removed from the bone, the bone is no longer in function, therefore it shrinks. Patients to consider or who need dental implants usually need a procedure to increase the width of the bone, so that implants can be placed. This is called bone grafting. We have several different sources of securing the bone. We can use patient's own bone or we could use synthetic bone replacements. Bone grafting is also used occasionally in replacing missing bone during gum surgery. But in our practice we use bone grafting mainly to restore the bone to its adequate width so we can place dental implants.
