DR. STANISLAUS: Implants can be used to replace one or many teeth. It could also be used to hold a denture. Many patients come in to me and say Stanislaus, my denture won't stay in. It moves when I eat, it is even falling out on occasion when I was at dinner or at a function or during a meeting. Those patients are great for having implants, because implants, like I said, can also support a denture. Really they will make the denture very solid. In fact, a regular denture only gives patients 10% of the chewing efficiency of natural teeth. With implants it will really restore your chewing efficiency and plus they look and feel like natural teeth. Patients who have implants, patients who have gone with out teeth, with large gaps between their teeth for many years, implants have been an ideal solution for that. And patients really leave the office whenever having implants, just confident that they have a tooth or teeth that won't move or come out. Before the placement of an implant, patients are generally very, very embarrassed about the fact that they are missing teeth. But after implants are placed you can just see the joy and satisfaction that they have, now that they have a replacement that will look and feel just like a natural tooth.
